I spend my weeks making things – prints, drawings, woven objects – and watching the material overrule the intention I started with. Yet when I write, it all clicks and everything in the object in front of me suddenly makes sense.
That led me to looking at the art of others with the same lens: What do I feel about this piece in front of me? What led the author to this? How do others perceive it? What new could I pick up for myself here?
"In Front of Me" explores just that – the gap between what a maker intended and what arrived instead. One made piece at a time: a painting, a book, a character – any object that just makes sense and makes me wonder.
Most writing judges the art and educates the readers on the process behind the piece – I'm not here to do that.
